Cinnamon Cream Cheese Buttercream

,

Fall is by far my favorite time of year and always brings the desire to bake. Now, I am all about the yummy homemade goodness, however, keep it simple. This buttercream will satisfy any palette and give all the autumn vibes. All honesty here, I cringe at store bought icing and that “fake” taste is something I personally just do not like. I am a busy mom and wife, and I wanted a simple recipe for everyday fast paced life. The fam, my bona fide taste testers, give this icing a thumbs up, so it has become my go-to fall cinnamon spice and everything nice icing recipe.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups powdered sugar (sifted, this makes it smooth)
  • 1 stick salted butter (barely softened)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1: CREAM BUTTER AND CREAM CHEESE Using a stand mixer or a hand mixer, beat the butter and cream cheese together until light and fluffy.

STEP 2: POWDERED SUGAR Gradually beat in the powdered sugar. Scrape down the sides as necessary. Beat until incorporated.

STEP 3: VANILLA AND CINNAMON Beat in the vanilla and cinnamon until just combined.

FAQ

CAN I USE UNSALTED BUTTER? Yes, absolutely! If you do use unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to your buttercream. This will help balance the sweetness.

WHAT IF MY ICING IS TOO THIN? If your icing is too thin, you can gradually beat in some more powdered sugar into your icing. Do this until you have reached your desired consistency.

WHAT IF MY ICING IS TOO THICK? If your icing is too thick, you can beat in, one tablespoon at a time, either heavy cream, milk, or half and half. Do this until you have reached your desired consistency.
